The Jekyll Island Shrimp & Grits Festival is quickly approaching! It is the only festival in the country dedicated solely to the widely popular and quintessentially Southern dish: Shrimp & Grits. What was once a simple food pairing deeply rooted in the South, Shrimp & Grits has become a menu-must for exclusive restaurants across the country. The only event in the country dedicated to this quintessential Southern dish kicks off September 17. Just last year, the Shrimp & Grits Festival drew more than 18,000 enthusiasts! The fifth annual event will take place for September 17-19, 2010. Children's Week (Friday, October 1 - Thursday, October 7) is an annual event honoring children/youth and families in Richmond County. This year marks the 22nd year this event has been held. Celebrate Halloween at the Georgia A-Scary-Um : Calling all boys and “ghouls”, in its third year running, the Georgia Aquarium will be transforming into the Georgia A-Scary-Um! Join our bat fish and spider crabs at the Georgia A-Scary-Um Oct. 29-31 for friendly Halloween fun and safe trick-or-treating for the whole family. Kids 12 and under in costume will receive free admission when accompanied by an adult. Guests can enjoy themed decorations throughout the galleries, Halloween music, trick-or-treat candy stations, Halloween craft tables, and costume contests throughout the day. The A-Scary-Um is proud to partner with Green Halloween®, a non-profit community initiative to create and provide healthier and more Earth-friendly options to families by teaching them about eco-friendly and animal-friendly Halloween candy.
